OUR APARTMENT IS REALLY QUIET. The Girl went to camp and The Husband went with her. It is just me and the Boy and he isn't known for being overly chatty. It's been really cold here (41*) which is cold in California -- and the camp is right down on the Bay, so I imagine the Husband is freezing. He hates being cold.
I can't believe the Girl is old enough for outdoor ed. I can remember when I went a million years ago. Our 6th graders go to the exact same campgrounds I went to! Our 5th graders also went to outdoor ed this year because it is our last year of having 6th graders on our campus. This means that the Girl got to go to camp, and that next year she will be at Middle School.
We found out yesterday, she got into the middle school we had requested - it's not our neighborhood school. We are pretty excited and between that and preparing for camp, the Girl was talking a mile a minute last night. The contrast is significant. The Boy watched the Science channel and then went to bed. The most he said was, "Science is cool."
The Husband can't even really text, so my level of communication is low. I hope he survives camp, especially since I signed him up to be a camp counselor while he was on tour. Of course, he's a pro at being a camp counselor. All through college, he worked at camps. How is this for adorable: we sort of met at camp. We knew each other before camp, but we were counselors at the same camp when he decided that maybe he might like me.
Actually, he thought I was obnoxious. I'm a morning person and he's not. I would come bouncing into our morning staff meeting, while he was trying to stay upright. He found my early morning cheerfulness annoying, but I was wearing shorts, and he found my legs . . . distracting. The rest is history. We fell in love, got married and now have a kid old enough to go to camp. It is unbelievable.
Here's hoping that the other half of our family is warm, safe and happy.
