IT WAS PICTURE day today. If you passed through campus you would’ve seen some pretty awesome hair. One of my students even got her hair cut in an adorable A-line bob. I loved her new do. Our students wear uniforms, so hair is the most impressive accessory they have. In the springtime, we have pictures again, and students are allowed to wear “free dress”. You wouldn’t believe the range of styles; anything from formal wear to flip flops (the flip floppers are sent to put on proper shoes). Today was all about the hair though.
Apparently, having good hair causes massive distractions for all students, or at least it causes them to be very chatty. I’m not sure why, and don’t understand the science behind it, but I know from experience that it 100% true. Ask any teacher. It is a real thing.
MEANWHILE, my Offspring are KILLING it in middle school. They both have the highest grades they have ever had, and we are celebrating with frozen yogurt later. This is a really big deal because school is not easy for my Offspring. I love it when their very, very, VERY hard work pays off. They are pretty proud of themselves, and the Husband and I are too.
I was chit-chatting with my pal in Tennessee, and she said this, “We are all just hanging in there until fall break next week.” Fall break? What is that? I’ve heard some of my across-the-u.s teacher friends mention it, and apparently it is a thing. I don’t think we need another vacation though. I don’t want to have to start all over with expectations and behaviors again!
BELIEVE IT OR NOT, I was able to get 24 1st graders to log onto their Chromebooks today. THIS IS NO SMALL THING. It took me, three 4th grade helpers, VERY CLEAR, color-coded log-in cards and TONS of patience, but they logged on in just over 14 minutes. They WERE PUMPED about it, too. They got to visit my website and play the games. Their current favorites are Teach Your Monster to Read and Keyboard Climber, which involves a monkey jumping from leaf to leaf when you type the correct letter. If you get it wrong, they monkey gets bonked on the head with a coconut. Guess which part of the game they enjoyed the most? Ah, well, they earned it with all that hard work. Besides, who doesn’t love a little cartoon monkey getting bonked the head with a cartoon coconut? amiright?
