I JUST FINISHED editing our FIRST news program of the school year! My leadership students WERE pumped to be apart of the news team. As they slid into their official news team blazers one said to the other, “You look so serious! Like a news person.” It is pretty adorable. We have a random collection of donated navy blazers in varying sizes. Strangely, the most popular jacket is one that used to be mine. The boys fight over it like crazy - never knowing it is a “ladies” jacket.
I do enjoy their enthusiasm for the project, but trying to keep 18 kids quiet while the other 7 film is pretty nerve wracking. If I got paid a dollar for every time that I said, “Ok, everybody quiet and don’t move.” I would have a sweet little pile of cash. In the end, though, when I see the edited news, I just feel really proud of the kids, and I forget about the fact that we have to keep the air conditioner off (it’s too loud), and that there is ALWAYS one kid who thinks it is super funny to make a sound right when we start filming. After the project is finished and on display for the world, all I remember is how much these kids can do! It is our first show and they did a GREAT job.
My reading students were on FIRE today, too! We have been really working at figuring out THE MAIN IDEA when we read, and they were on IT! I am really proud of them and hope that when they take their next assessment - it will show their growth.
AND tomorrow is Friday. Fridays are good for all kinds of reasons — not the least of which is that on Friday we have snack potluck!!! SCORE!! Tomorrow in leadership we will be breaking down our plan for the yearbook. It is exciting to make a SECOND yearbook since this time I will have SOME idea of what I am doing! But for now, I’m going to put my feet up and rest until tomorrow!
Keep moving forward,
